MLB Daily Fantasy Algorithmic Picks for August 22nd on FanDuel

Low Salary

  • 1B – Justin Bour

Bour gets a LvsR match up at home against one of the most targetable pitchers in baseball. Even the abysmal Marlins offense is projected to score 4.3 runs against Aaron Harang. Harang gives up a ton of home runs and even though the park is not ideal, it is Bour’s home stadium and size is pretty irrelevant when he connects with the ball well.

  • 3B – Todd Frazier

Frazier has been playing pretty well despite the Reds’ struggles. Cincy has a 4.2 run projection against a pitcher who has only seen bullpen action this year. Sure, it’s RvsR but how often can you get a hitter with 29 home runs and 73 RBI for under 3K? The GABP is a great hitters park as well.

  • OF – Jay Bruce

Speaking of the GABP, Bruce has hit more home runs at home and slugged almost 90 points higher in Cincinnati this season. He gets a LvsR match up and has the same run projection as Frazier.

  • SS – Alcides Escobar

KC has a 4.8 run projection on the road tonight. It’s no surprise facing Matt Barnes who gave up 6 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings. Escobar continues to lead off which makes him valuable for at bats and the pitcher/catcher combo he is facing gave up a couple stolen bases last time out.

High Salary

  • SS – Jose Reyes

Reyes enjoys the Coors Field bump tonight and will be batting second for the 5.1 run projected Rockies. Reyes is pretty hit or miss on a nightly basis but is batting .357 over his last 7 games.

  • 1B – Joey Votto

Throw Votto in with the other Reds on this list tonight. He’s got a stellar LvsR match up and is having another solid month. Votto’s patience at the plate almost guarantees him some points every night with 18 walks and 18 hits in 62 at bats this August.

  • OF – Ben Zobrist

Zobrist has been exceptional since joining the Royals. Look for this play to continue against a weak pitcher in a hitter friendly ball park. With a 4.8 run projection I’d say he has the most upside of any second baseman on the slate tonight.

  • 1B – Eric Hosmer

Hosmer has slowed a bit since his red hot start to August. However, tonight’s match up leaves almost nothing to be desired. A lvsR match up against a weak pitcher, big run projection and a park boost makes Hosmer a very solid play at first.

Under the Radar Player

  • OF – Yasiel Puig

Puig gets a nice line up spot upgrade tonight. Batting second in Houston with a RvsL match up sounds incredibly appealing. It is doubtful many will use Puig though with his reoccurring hamstring problems and facing a quality pitcher in Scott Kazmir. Kazmir however, is coming off getting lit up at home by the Rays and hasn’t made it out of the 6th in three straight starts thanks to poor command of his pitches.
