MLB Daily Fantasy Algorithmic Picks for August 17th on FanDuel
- C – Jonathan Lucroy
Lucroy and the Brewers have a 4.5 run projection against a bad lefty at home. In hitter-friendly Miller Park it is hard not to like the min-priced Lucroy from the second spot in an order that is expected to go off tonight.
- 1B – Justin Bour
Bour is just barely above min price and slotted in at clean up in Milwaukee tonight. The big lefty gets a plus match up against the aging Matt Garza with splits in Bour’s favor. He’s a fairly contrarian play who has plenty of upside thanks to his power and the park bump.
- OF – Jacoby Ellsbury
Ellsbury is way cheap tonight on FanDuel and gets a premium match up in Yankee stadium which is a great park for lefties. Ellsbury should be easily able to steal off of Kurt Suzuki tonight and the Yankees are projected to score 5 runs which means lots of plate appearances for the Yankee lead off man.
- 1B – Joe Mauer
Mauer and the Twins have a 4 run projection in Yankee stadium tonight. Mauer will get a LvsR match up against Bryan Mitchell who is making the third start of his career. Yankee Stadium is a great park for lefties and Mauer has been hitting well.
- 1B – Prince Fielder
Fielder gets a LvsR match up with a 4.6 run projection at home in the oven of Arlington. Taijaun Walker has shown flashes of brilliance this year but has also been lit up and the big lefty is hitting right handed pitching at an absurdly high rate.
- OF – Ryan Braun
Braun gets that juicy match up in Miller Park tonight. 4.5 run projection, bad lefty on the mound. Braun is a chalky play tonight in the outfield.
- 1B – Albert Pujols
Pujols is one of the more affordable high upside guys tonight at first base. He’s got a RvsL match up against Carlos Rodon who has absolutely insane splits this year. Some people may be scared off by the Angels’ recent struggles offensively and Rodon’s most recent 11K shut out performance. The 4.2 run projection and historical number suggest otherwise, however.
- OF – Mike Trout
Same match up as Pujols above.

- OF – Gregory Polanco
Polanco is at that sort of awkward middle price point for an outfielder where it can be hard to justify rostering him when there are options above and below that can be viable. Here’s 3 reasons to play him on a night where he may go under 5% owned.
1) Polanco has been RED HOT recently.
2) Polanco can hit for power and steal bases, especially against right handed pitching.
3) Opposing pitcher, Jeremy Hellickson, has bee awful on the road despite being quite good at home.View all posts by Donnie Chell
