Love vs. Durant vs. LeBron on DraftKings for 12/27
We are finally back to a full slate of NBA games. With great value plays like Beno Udrih (don’t worry, there aren’t sleeves on the jerseys tonight) and Jordan Farmar available for $4,000 or less, you should have the option of picking at least one of the top fantasy players tonight. Let’s dive into each one.
Kevin Love $10,500 (Washington at Minnesota) – Does Kevin Love ever have a bad game? He’s put up at least 50 FPTS in his last eight games and is coming off an 80.25 FPTS outing at the Los Angeles Clippers. In terms of defense, defensive efficiency, pace and rebounding, the Wizards are average. The Timberwolves are favored by six and the over/under is 206.5. The one interesting note is that the Wizards have one of the worst benches in the league in terms of minutes and defensive efficiency. With players like Love and Nikola Pekovic, that can be a punishing duo to deal with in having a condensed second unit.
Kevin Durant $10,400 (Oklahoma City at Charlotte) – Kevin Durant seems to be hovering around that 50 FPTS mark, but he’s been known to turn in a 35 FPTS outing occasionally. Tonight could be one of those occasions. While the Bobcats are perceived as one of the worst franchises in the league, they quietly have a 14-15 record and that’s because of their defense. They are ranked third in points allowed, third in turnovers and run the 24th-most possessions per game. While those are all negative factors for Durant, the Bobcats are also doing a much better job on the glass with the big bodies of Al Jefferson, Josh McRoberts and Anthony Tolliver. With an over/under of just 198.5 and the Thunder being favored by nine, almost every sign tells you not to play Durant.
LeBron James $10,300 (Miami at Sacramento) – This one puts daily fantasy players in a tough spot. Once again, Dwyane Wade is questionable with a knee issue. Tip off is at 10:05 p.m. ET and the only other game starting at nearly the same time or later is Phoenix vs. Golden State at 10:35 p.m. ET. The Kings are a solid matchup for LeBron since they are near the bottom in every defensive category. However, look at LeBron’s recent outings: 34.75 FPTS vs LA Lakers (a horrific defense), 63 FPTS vs Atlanta (overtime and no Wade), 41.5 FPTS vs Sacramento (same opponent), 50.75 FPTS (Miami has no one to score against Indiana’s frontcourt and LeBron usually does most the work against them). Then again, the over/under is 209.5 and Miami is only favored by seven. If you want to wait and see about Wade’s status, make sure you have LeBron in the utility slot. That way, you can swap LeBron out for Stephen Curry, who should have a big game going against the fast-paced Suns and is looking for a big bounce back after struggling versus the Clippers.
Who to Play? – Go with Love. He’s the hottest fantasy player, has the highest ceiling and pretty much every variable tells you to play him. The Timberwolves haven’t played since Sunday and Love should be fully rested. Plus, he’s nearly the same price as the other two stars. I highly recommend staying away from Durant tonight. LeBron is a safe bet with or without Wade, but if you can find a way to play Love and LeBron if Wade doesn’t play, you will be in great shape.
