Sked’s Top NBA Plays 2/11

With seven games on the slate for Tuesday night NBA hoops, I’ve decided to give some of my top plays. This ranges from low-salary players all the way to the max guys. There are a lot of injuries to consider, especially since the Lakers are on the court, but some of my favorite plays are unrelated to that. Let’s dive in.

(All salaries via DraftKings)

Chris Kaman $4,800 – How can you not like him? The Lakers frontcourt is a mess without Pau Gasol, but Kaman has posted 86.5 FPTS in 43 minutes combined over the last two games. That’s two FPTS per minute! Plus, 48 of those FPTS came against the Bulls frontcourt. Furthermore, Kaman will be the starting center against the Jazz, a position that the Jazz are in the bottom third of the league in FPTS allowed. He’s a must-start.

Gordon Hayward $7,000 – I think Hayward will get some plays, but not a ton. He had a great game against the Heat on Saturday with 41.75 FPTS, but didn’t eclipse the 30 FPTS mark in the four previous matchups. The Lakers are very shorthanded in the backcourt once again, and you will find Steve Blake defending Hayward most of the time. That’s a great matchup for Hayward in terms of posting him up, shooting over him and even being able to drive some.

Marvin Williams $5,000 – The one thing I don’t like about Williams is that since Derrick Favors’ and Jeremy Evans’ return, his minutes are down to just under 30 a game. However, his offensive role has increased, he’s taking as many FGA and taking more three-pointers (good on DraftKings). At $5,000 where the Lakers are one of the worst teams at defending the PF position, Williams is certainly worth a play. However, he’ll certainly be worth fading in bad matchups when his salary increases closer to $6,000.

Isaiah Thomas $7,500 and DeMarcus Cousins $9,600 – I’m promoting both of these guys for several reasons. Thomas’ consistency and upside has been tremendous, regardless which Kings players are in the game. At the same time, his upside increases given the opponent. The Cavs are playing like the second-worst defensive team in the league (after the 76ers obviously) and they allowing the second-most FPTS to PGs. As for Cousins, Anderson Varejao is out tonight. He’s by far Cleveland’s best rebounder and Cousins should dominate in the post and I expect more than 50 FPTS. Both guys should go off.

Kyrie Irving $8,700 and Dion Waiters $5,300 – Again, I’m recommending two guys on the same team again. But this time, they are for similar reasons. With Varejao and especially C.J. Miles out, a lot of FGAs are taken out of the lineup. This means Irving will take more shots in the starting five and Waiters will too off the bench. Both players have been hot as of late and Sacramento is in the bottom third of the league FPTS allowed at PG and SG.
