NBA Must-Plays DraftKings 1/7
I’ve been on a short hiatus from NBA writing because of my move to Las Vegas, but now I’m settled in and ready to tackle daily fantasy NBA. There are several plays that I love tonight and I’m excited to try them out in my own lineups. With a large slate of games and Philly and the Lakers playing tonight, it’s going to take a ton of points to have the winning team tonight. Use these picks to supplement your lineup and (hopefully) carry you to a nice score.
Monta Ellis $7,400 – Ellis hasn’t exactly been a hot player lately but that may change tonight going up against the Lakers. The Lakers are known for giving up points to big men but I think this significantly benefits Ellis, a slasher-type guard who gets most of his points around the rim. The Lakers are absolutely terrible at protecting the hoop in general and since Dallas doesn’t really have a go-to insider scorer I see this benefiting Ellis tremendously. He also benefits from the Lakers fast-pace as well, the over/under for this game is 209. The only downside I see for Ellis is Dallas is favored by almost 10 and this could possibly be a blowout, he may be best on a site like DraftStreet where is price is pretty low.
Kyrie Irving $7500 – I’ll let you read breaking down the Cleveland v Philly game tonight if you want an extensive breakdown on why you should play Irving. Philly is the best matchup for PGs in the NBA so you’ll want to play Irving here. It looks like he’s playing tonight but make sure to check before tip off.
Gerald Green $4,500 – Chicago is one of the top teams against shooting guards in the NBA, and while that should get heavy consideration when deciding to use a player, I think not playing Green would be ridiculous here. His salary very low which means it won’t take much for him to hit his value. He’s also playing in a game that’s basically a pick-em spread-wise, meaning it almost always will be a close game and with no real SG behind him Green should get big minutes. Lastly, now that Deng is gone from Chicago we may see Jimmy Butler, Chicago’s best defender, play some SF alongside Tony Snell at SG, a much better matchup for Green. This is a guy who can top 40 fantasy points on a given night, don’t fall in love with the DvP stat here and go with Green.
Taj Gibson $5,000 – Carlos Boozer looks like he’ll be out tonight which means Gibson will get the start. Gibson is essentially the only playable PF on the team without Boozer and it showed against Atlanta where he got a team-high 39 minutes. Gibson is a player who can fill up the stat sheet and is almost guaranteed to get 30 fantasy points tonight. He’s an absolute must-start.
James Johnson $4,000 – Johnson was a hot commodity a few weeks ago, absolutely filling up the stat sheet in every category and putting up 30-40 fantasy point games in less than 25 minutes. He’s cooled off significantly the last few games, and I think we’ll see a lot of people avoid him. However, Memphis is facing San Antonio who has a ridiculously deep bench and uses it frequently. San Antonio may also blow out memphis which I suspect would lead to Johnson playing in garbage time. I think he’s still a decent play in GPPs but definitely a gamble. If he has a good game, it could give you a significant edge.
Anthony Davis $9,100 – This may shock a lot of people but I really don’t like Davis tonight. Miami does give up fantasy points to big men but Miami does not turn the ball over and almost never gets their shots blocked, their 2.9 blocked attempts per game is the lowest in the league. This could also be a blow-out meaning Davis will get low minutes. I think Davis may get his points and rebounds but he won’t get those essential steals and blocks that make him a great play. I’d rather play Carmelo Anthony or Lamarcus Aldridge at similar salaries.
