NBA Fantasy Plays 3/03
The obvious cheap value plays tonight are few and far between so the focus of today’s article will be on mid-tier plays. I’ll also add my usage predictions at the end of this article. Enjoy!
Under the Radar
Eric Gordon – Gordon’s salary has dropped all the way to $4,800 on FanDuel and with good reason, he’s put up a paltry 11 fantasy points in 3 of his last 5 games. However, I predict that may change tonight mostly because of one man, Ben Mclemore. Mclemore has a horrible defensive rating and from the Kings games I’ve watched this year, the eye test agrees. Because of Mclemore’s struggles on the offensive end, the Kings have sometimes been going with a 2 PG lineup with Ray Mccollum playing alongside Isaiah Thomas. Gordon should feast off of that bad defensive tandem. New Orleans has also been terrible lately losing 7 straight and having a hard time finding any offense. But they’re heading to Sacramento tonight and are only +3.5 dogs, which should benefit all the starters on New Orleans who have been getting fewer minutes in their losses. Someone is going to have to score outside of Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans and it’s likely Gordon will answer the call.
Kevin Martin – He’s back from injury and it looks like there’s no minute limitations. Martin has had 2 good games against Denver this year and with Ty Lawson back and pushing the pace Martin should have plenty of opportunities to score tonight.
Tyreke Evans – Speaking of New Orleans, they have a new starting SF in town and his name is Tyreke Evans. He’s been playing well in that role, he’s been handling the ball a lot and putting up numbers all across the board. I’m debating using a Gordon Evans combo play in headsup’s tonight on FanDuel, they’re only about $10,000 collectively and I feel they have 60-75 fantasy points between them. He’ll be guarded by Rudy Gay for the majority of the game but that doesn’t deter me from him as much as it just makes me like Gay more.
Rudy Gay – He’s pricey on both DraftKings and FanDuel but he may be worth it being guarded by a PG playing SF in Tyreke Evans. Gay will surely get some blocks tonight as Evans is a player who does nothing but drive to the basket and Gay’s length should give him 2-4 blocks on those alone. He also had a 41/8/5 game earlier this year against New Orleans and that was against the longer Al Faroq Aminu. Seems like Gay has a lot of things going for him tonight so it’s hard to fade him especially with the lack of choices at the SF position on FanDuel.
Demarcus Cousins – Cousins salary on both DraftKings and FanDuel is suppressed by recent injury but this is a dream matchup for him against a soft Alexis Ajinca who is mostly responsible for New Orleans poor performance against Centers lately. Ajinca isn’t a banger at all which means Cousins should never get into foul trouble this game and that makes him a very safe play tonight. He should also pick up some blocks tonight against New Orleans inept offense.
Damian Lillard – His salary is up and his value is hurt slightly by Lamarcus Aldridge’s return but it seems like Aldridge’s minutes are slightly limited and Lillard has a dream matchup against the fast paced Lakers. He’s a safe play at PG which is another thin position tonight.
Marshon Brooks, Kent Bazemore, and Wesley Johnson – Johnson has been starting at PF lately but I find it hard to believe Ryan Kelly won’t make the start tonight unless the Lakers are crazy and want to put the 6’7″ Johnson on Lamarcus Aldridge. That means Johnson is going to be part of a log-jam at SF/SG which is even more complicated by Xavier Henry’s return. You may strike gold with one of these players but I think it’s way too risky.
Jordan Farmar – Farmar’s minutes are slowly increasing and while he probably will still come off the bench tonight he looks to get 30 minutes at PG against the fast paced Blazers. Farmar is a good scorer in a good matchup and I love him tonight on DraftKings where his salary is only $4,300.
High Usage Predictions (Player’s I think will be used by many players)
Lillard (Probably over 50% used)
Mike Conley (25% used)
Gordon Hayward (50% used)
Tyreke Evans (35% used)
Rudy Gay (over 50% used)
