NBA Daily Fantasy 2/27: Top Plays at Each Position
A whooping 14 games are on the NBA slate for tonight, which means we need to somehow filter through all the options to find out who the best plays are at each position.
The only teams not in action are the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks. There are also several new injury considerations we must make, including Derrick Rose, Pau Gasol and doubtful tags for Kyrie Irving and DeMarcus Cousins.
In some cases, I listed two or three players. This is either because of injury/starter situations that have yet to be determined.
(all salaries via Fan Duel)
PG – Aaron Brooks $4,500 – No Derrick Rose or Paul Gasol. Not only will Brooks see a bump in minutes, his usage percentage should see a substantial increase. The Bulls also face the Timberwolves, and Minnesota gives up the second-most FPTS to PGs.
SG – Jason Terry $3,800/Elijah Millsap $4,000 – Patrick Beverley (illness) and James Harden (ankle) are questionable for tonight’s contest. In the event both guys sit, Terry is a must-play. If only Harden sits, Corey Brewer would likely get the start, but Terry would get a slight bump. If only Beverely sits, Terry would start and get a solid bump in minutes, but the usage percentage wouldn’t go up. If both play, completely forget about Terry. There aren’t any other SG plays that I necessarily love, so I like going with Millsap. It’s a great place to save money, the Nuggets are in ultimate tank mode, Denver is terrible in FPTS allowed at all positions (seventh-worst to SG) and Millsap is a low-risk by playing 30 minutes as a starter.
SF – LeBron James $10,400 – I don’t like that Cleveland is only a 3.5-point favorite on the second of a back-to-back, but without Kyrie Irving, LeBron will have the ball in his hands a lot more. Even though I see Indiana winning this game, I expect LeBron to at worst put up 50 FPTS.
PF – Taj Gibson $5,100/J.J. Hickson $3,700/Joffrey Lauvergne $3,500 – There’s actually a big difference when Gibson starts for Gasol as opposed to Noah. Gasol is substantially more involved from a FPTS perspective and on offense, so Gibson should substantially benefit, not to mention Rose is out and the Timberwolves give up the fifth-most FPTS to PFs. I also listed Hickson and Lauvergne for this reason. Jusuf Nurkic and Darrell Arthur are out. The only Nuggets big men are Kenneth Faried, Hickson and Lauvergne, which means one of these two cheap options will start. Brian Shaw might play small at some point and use Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler together at the 3 and 4, but whoever starts between Hickson and Lauvergne should get 30 minutes. Plus, Shaw hasn’t been playing Faried very much as it is.
C – Rudy Gobert $6,400 – The Nuggets give up the seventh-most FPTS to centers, but it’s actually worse than that for tonight. Denver is short handed, and both Hickson and Lauvergne are terrible defenders. The Nuggets also get their shots blocked more than any other team in the NBA.View all posts by Nick Juskewycz
