NBA Bargain Bin 1/13/14
There’s an uncharacteristically large number of bargain plays tonight, and with few high salary players to compensate you’re going to have to pick and choose who you like most. In this article I’ll try to help you sort it out.
Brian Roberts $4000 – Roberts hasn’t exactly lit it up the past 2 games but he’s also outperformed his very low salary. His only 2 games as the starter have been against Dallas, a team that defends PGs quite well. While the Spurs are not cake defense, they are a little soft against PGs. I also like Roberts better in games where New Orleans will be down, since they’ll have to rely on him late in the game. I think he’s one of the best values tonight.
Manu Ginobli $4400 – Danny Green is out 4-6 weeks which means Ginobli will start tonight. He should get 30+ minutes tonight and his matchup is fantastic against a small SG in Gordon who he should own. He’s essentially a lock to get 20+ fantasy points and i think has some pretty high potential. I love him.
Randy Foye $5100 – Foye has been on an absolute tear lately and with Gordon Hayward likely out he’ll be guarded by Alec Burks who isn’t a good defender. His salary hasn’t risen to catch up with his performance of late, I think he’s a great start.
Carlos Boozer $5800 – On the high side of the bargains tonight but I felt like I had to add him to this list because I like him a lot tonight. With Deng now gone from Chicago, Boozer is picking up some of the scoring slack. His performance correlates extremely well with a stat from NBA.com called “FG% allowed at the rim.” Both Trevor Booker and Nene allow a very high fg% at the rim, Booker is one of the worst in the league at 57%, and Boozer is just so ridiculously underpriced tonight he absolutely has to be used.
Alec Burks $4700 – Burks will most likely be starting at SG tonight with Gordon Hayward out. He’s a player who’s capable of a massive performance, he topped 50 fantasy points in a game against Miami about a month ago, but I’m not so sure about him against Denver. This game could be a massive blowout and Denver isn’t exactly soft against SGs. I think he’ll hit his value but I prefer other plays over him.
Kris Humphries $4700 – Humphries has been inserted into Bostons starting lineup and is going up against Houston, a team that plays at a fast pace and gives up points to big men. He’s done well lately with the minutes he’s been getting, and I don’t see any reason why those minutes should wane. He should do well tonight.
Even though I like all these players, we can’t put them all in our lineups. Here’s who I like the most (in order):
Good Luck Tonight.
