MLB DFS 5/13: Pitchers to Target
For tonight’s full slate of Tuesday games, there appears to be a lot of great value plays. Pitchers are where you can score big using the top guys, and Adam Wainwright is a great play for obvious reasons (STL-245 and an O/U of 7 runs). But tonight there are a few players who are on the cheaper end that should end up providing great results. Hopefully, none of these turn out like Tyler Lyons did yesterday.
(All salaries via DraftKings)
Mike Minor $7,400 – Minor will be making his third start of the season tonight. He’s 0-2, with an ERA of 6.97. His first start was decent (6IP 2ER), but his second was awful with 4.1 IP, 6ER and 11H. However, let’s not forget this was a guy who had 181 K last season with an ERA of 3.21. Vegas has this matchup with the Giants as a tossup and the O.U with 7 runs. I’d expect quite a few people to stay away from Minor being recently biased, so Minor is a guy you could get a great edge with. Plus, the Giants lineup has been below average so far, and this game is in a pitcher’s park.
Ryan Vogelsong $7,300 – Same matchup, but for much different reasoning. Quite frankly, I don’t get what DraftKings is doing here. The salary doesn’t come close to what Vegas lines are telling us, but his last three games also resulted in 14.3, 22.1 and 25.4 FPTS. He threw over 100 pitches in all of those contests going 7.1, 6 and 7IP respectively. He’s not a huge strikeout guy, but $7,300 is still significantly cheap.
Drew Pomeranz $6,000 – The Athletics are -180 with an O/U of 8.5 runs. So why is Pomeranz so cheap? This will only be his second start of the year. Pomeranz came over from the Rockies this season and started in the bullpen. He’s now worked his way into the rotation. The downside to Pomeranz is he only went 5IP last game despite giving up 0ER, only 2H and racking up 5K. However, reports are that his pitch count could be bumped up to 90 after throwing 68 last time out. The good news is that he gets Ks, the Vegas line is on his side and he’s pitching well. The bad news is that he will go between 6 and 7IP at the absolute best. Still, for $6,000, a great play.View all posts by Nick Juskewycz
